How much bigger is a Pro Max than a Pro?
Between 20% and 26% more screen area, depending on the year. The width gap matters most for one-handed use, since that is the distance your thumb has to reach across.
Does the Pro have a bigger screen than the standard iPhone?
In five of the seven years from 2019 with one of each, the Pro and standard model shared a diagonal. The sizes differed only in 2019 and 2024.
- 2019: the iPhone 11 Pro was about a third of an inch smaller than the iPhone 11, with about a tenth less screen area.
- 2020: the iPhone 12 Pro had the very same screen as the iPhone 12.
- 2021: the iPhone 13 Pro had the very same screen as the iPhone 13.
- 2022: the iPhone 14 Pro had the same diagonal as the iPhone 14, at a slightly sharper resolution.
- 2023: the iPhone 15 Pro had the very same screen as the iPhone 15.
- 2024: the iPhone 16 Pro was about a fifth of an inch bigger than the iPhone 16, with a little more screen area.

Is the Plus the same size as the Pro Max?

Does the same size mean the same screen?
Not always, even when the diagonal matches.
The iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 are both 6.1 inch. The iPhone 11 has 828 × 1792 pixels at 324 PPI, while the iPhone 12 has 1170 × 2532 at 457 PPI. Text and photos look clearly sharper on the newer phone from close up.

How we measure
Each screen's width and height come from its diagonal and resolution. Area compares width × height, and pixel density is the pixel diagonal divided by the screen diagonal.
