How do I find my screen size?
Screen size is the diagonal of the visible screen, from one corner to the opposite corner, in inches. Browsers can't read it, so there are three ways to find it. Match a bank card on screen with our monitor size tool, look up the model name, or measure with a tape.
On a Windows PC or monitor
Settings > System > Display shows your display resolution. For the size, find the model name on the label on the back or underneath. Many monitor model numbers contain the size, such as the 27 in S2721.
On a laptop
On Windows, the model name is on the label underneath the laptop. On a Mac, Apple menu > About This Mac shows the model and its screen size. Look the model up on our laptop screen size pages, or measure the visible screen diagonally, without the bezel.
On an iPhone or Android phone
On an iPhone, Settings > General > About shows the model name. Find it on our iPhone screen size list. On Android, Settings > About phone shows the model to search for.
On a TV
The model number on the back label usually starts or ends with the size, such as 55 or 65. Our guide on how to measure a TV covers the tape method.
No tape measure? A bank card is 85.6 mm wide on every card. Match one on screen and we work out your size in inches.
Measure my screenWhat are my screen dimensions?
Screen size and screen dimensions are different numbers. Size is one diagonal measurement, such as 27 inches. Dimensions are the width and height of the visible screen, such as 23.5 × 13.2 in (59.8 × 33.6 cm) for a 27 inch monitor.
In pixels, your screen dimensions are your resolution. This screen shows websites Checking and has Checking real pixels.
To turn a diagonal into a width and height you need the aspect ratio. For a 16:9 screen, the width is 0.872 × the diagonal and the height is 0.490 × the diagonal. Our screen size calculator does it for any size and ratio.
What is my display resolution?
Your display resolution is the number of pixels across and down. This screen has Checking pixels and a pixel ratio of Checking, so websites see Checking.
Resolution says nothing about inches. A 24 inch monitor and a 55 inch TV can both be 1080p, but the TV's pixels are more than twice as wide.
Pixel ratio is how many real pixels the screen uses for one website pixel. A phone with a ratio of 3 draws each website pixel with a 3 × 3 block, which keeps text sharp.
Display scaling is why a resolution can look lower than the box says. At 200% scaling a 4K screen reports 1920 × 1080 to websites, so we multiply by your pixel ratio to show the real panel resolution.
Screen dimensions chart
These are the width and height of the visible screen for popular sizes. A 27 inch monitor is 23.5 in (59.8 cm) wide and 13.2 in (33.6 cm) tall. A 34 inch ultrawide is about as tall, at 13.1 in (33.3 cm), but 7.8 in (19.9 cm) wider.
Sizes are the visible screen, without the frame. Each row links to its full page.
Screen dimensions by aspect ratio
Multiply the diagonal by these numbers to get the width and height of any screen. A 55 inch 16:9 TV is 55 × 0.872 = 47.9 in wide and 55 × 0.490 = 27.0 in tall.
Work out any other shape with the aspect ratio calculator.
How many pixels are in common resolutions?
4K has 3840 × 2160 pixels, exactly 4 times as many as 1080p. More pixels on the same size screen means sharper text and images.
