What Size TV for a Bedroom?

If your bed is 6 to 8 feet (1.8 to 2.4 m) from the wall, a 50 to 65 inch TV suits most bedrooms. Measure from where your head rests to the wall, then find your distance below.

The range keeps the screen between a relaxed 30° and a cinematic 40° of your view. Our TV size calculator uses the same rule.

What size TV fits each bed-to-wall distance?

At 6 feet (1.8 m) the range is 44 to 60 inches, and at 10 feet (3.0 m) it is 74 to 100 inches. Pick the bigger end if you mostly watch films.

How high should you mount a bedroom TV?

Center the screen at your eye height when you sit up in bed. Measure from the floor to your eyes the way you usually watch.

That is often higher than in a living room, where eyes sit about 42 inches (107 cm) from the floor. A tilting mount angles the screen down if you also watch lying down.

Does a bedroom TV need 4K?

Only on the bigger sizes, or if you sit close. With 1080p, single pixels vanish beyond 5.6 ft1.7 m on a 43 inch, 7.2 ft2.2 m on a 55 inch and 8.5 ft2.6 m on a 65 inch. If your bed is closer than that, 4K looks sharper.

Small bedroom TVs of 32 inches are often 1080p or 720p, so check the resolution before you buy.

Where should a bedroom TV go?

On the wall you face when you sit up in bed, centered on where you lie. Avoid a wall that faces a window, as daylight reflects off the screen.

Is a 65 inch TV too big for a bedroom?

Not if your bed is at least 6.5 ft (2.0 m) from the wall. Closer than that, the screen fills more than 40° of your view.

What size TV fits on a bedroom dresser?

Measure the dresser top and leave a few inches each side. A 43 inch TV is about 37.5 in (95.2 cm) wide before the frame.

Should a bedroom TV be mounted higher?

Usually, yes. You watch sitting up against the headboard, so your eyes are higher than on a sofa. A tilting mount helps if you also watch lying down.
