Stuck Pixel Test
A stuck pixel stays lit in one color, usually red, green or blue, while the rest of the screen changes. This test cycles six solid colors so it is easy to spot, and helps you tell it apart from a dead pixel.
Six full-screen colors. Click, tap or press an arrow key to move to the next one.
How do I find a stuck pixel?
Look for a dot that ignores the color change. Work through these steps on every color.
- Start the test and go full screen.
- Look for a dot that stays one color while the background changes.
- On black, a stuck pixel glows. On white, it shows as a colored dot.
- Note where it is, so you can find it again for the fixer below.
Can I fix a stuck pixel?
Sometimes. Flashing colors over the spot for 10 to 20 minutes can get a stuck pixel working again. It does not always work, and it will not help a dead pixel.
Photosensitivity warning. The fixer flashes bright colors quickly. Do not use it if you have photosensitive epilepsy, and look away while it runs.
- Press start. A flashing square appears in the middle of the window.
- Drag the square over the stuck pixel and leave it for 10 to 20 minutes.
- Press stop or Esc, then run the test again to check.
How does a stuck pixel fixer work?
A pixel is made of red, green and blue sub-pixels. A stuck pixel has one or more of them stuck on or off. A fixer flashes red, green, blue, white and black over the spot, switching each sub-pixel on and off many times a second.
Our fixer changes color every 60 milliseconds, about 16 times a second. Web fixers such as JScreenFix use the same idea. The flashing can nudge a sticky pixel back into normal use, but there is no guarantee, and the result can take a few runs.
Is a white pixel on my screen stuck?
First wipe the screen and look from another angle. Dust or a scratch can catch the light and look like a bright dot. A real pixel fault stays in the same place whatever you do.
Then run the test. A dot that shows white on every color has all three sub-pixels stuck on, which we call a hot pixel. A dot that turns red, green or blue on some colors has only one or two sub-pixels stuck, which gives the fixer a better chance.
Can I fix a stuck pixel on a phone or iPhone?
You can try. Open this page on the phone, start the fixer and drag the square over the pixel with your finger. Set the screen to stay awake while it runs, so it does not lock.
Fixers were made with LCD screens in mind, where liquid crystal can stick in one state. Many phones have OLED screens instead, so a fixer is less likely to help there.
Should I press on a stuck pixel?
We do not recommend it. Pressing or tapping the panel can damage more pixels, and the damage cannot be undone. Try the fixer a few times, then contact the seller if the pixel is still stuck.
Is it a stuck, dead or hot pixel?
A stuck pixel shows color, which is the good news. Dead and hot pixels look the same on every color and rarely recover.
What if the pixel stays stuck?
Photograph it on a solid color and note its position. Contact the seller or the maker while you are still inside the return window. Their pixel policy says how many faulty pixels count as a defect, and it differs by brand.
Questions
Can the fixer damage my screen?
No. It only changes colors quickly inside a small square, which any screen is built to do.
How long should I run the fixer?
Give it 10 to 20 minutes over the spot. If the pixel is still stuck after a few tries, it is unlikely to free itself.
Does the fixer work on a dead pixel?
No. A dead pixel gets no power, so flashing colors cannot reach it. Only stuck pixels sometimes respond.
Do I need to download a pixel fixer program?
No. The fixer on this page runs in your browser, so nothing is installed. It works the same way on Windows, macOS, ChromeOS and phones.
Can a stuck pixel fix itself?
Sometimes, after days of normal use. If it is still there when the return window is about to close, report it rather than wait.
