How do I find my phone model?
Every phone shows its model name in Settings. The path depends on the phone:
- iPhone: Settings, then General, then About, then Model Name.
- Samsung Galaxy: Settings, then About phone, where the name is at the top.
- Google Pixel and most Android phones: Settings, then About phone, then Model.
Search the model name with “specs” to find its screen size on the maker’s site.
What screen size is each iPhone?
Models with the same screen share a row. Width and height are the screen itself, not the phone body.
Sizes are from Apple’s tech specs pages. Last checked 11 October 2026.
How do I measure my phone screen?
If you cannot find the model, measure it. You need a ruler or tape measure:
- Turn the screen on and set it to a white page, so you can see its edges.
- Measure from the top left corner of the lit screen to the bottom right corner.
- Leave out the black border and the phone frame.
- Round to the nearest tenth of an inch, or divide centimeters by 2.54.
Apple measures its screens as if the corners were square, so a reading across rounded corners comes out slightly short. Our on-screen ruler can help if you have a second screen.
What do the numbers above mean?
Resolution is the number of pixels on the screen, and CSS pixels are the size apps use for layout. Pixel ratio is how many real pixels make one CSS pixel.
None of these are inches. For example, the iPhone 17 has a 6.3 in screen that is 2.6 in (6.7 cm)6.7 cm (2.6 in) wide.
What are the biggest and smallest iPhone screens?
In our list, the biggest screen is 6.9 in (17.5 cm), on the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The smallest is 4.7 in (11.9 cm), on the iPhone 8.
The iPhone 18 Pro Max screen is 2.9 in (7.3 cm)7.3 cm (2.9 in) wide, against 2.3 in (5.9 cm)5.9 cm (2.3 in) for the iPhone 8.
How do I compare two phone screen sizes?
Compare width and height, not just the diagonal. A small change in inches can mean a big change in how the phone feels in your hand.
The iPhone 17 screen is 2.6 in (6.7 cm)6.7 cm (2.6 in) by 5.7 in (14.5 cm)14.5 cm (5.7 in). The iPhone 17 Pro Max screen is 2.9 in (7.3 cm)7.3 cm (2.9 in) by 6.3 in (15.9 cm)15.9 cm (6.3 in).
Our iPhone size comparison draws any two models side by side, to scale.
Why are phone screens measured on the diagonal?
It is the same rule used for TVs and monitors, so every screen is measured the same way. One number covers both the width and the height.
The catch is that shape matters. Two screens with the same diagonal can differ in width, because a taller screen is also narrower. Our screen size calculator turns any diagonal and shape into width and height.
How do I convert screen size between inches and cm?
Multiply inches by 2.54 to get centimeters, or divide centimeters by 2.54 to get inches. Some common sizes:
- 6.1 in is 15.5 cm.
- 6.3 in is 16.0 cm.
- 6.7 in is 17.0 cm.
- 6.9 in is 17.5 cm.
Should I buy a case by screen size or by model?
Always by model. Two phones with the same screen size can have different camera bumps, buttons and corners. A case made for one may not fit the other.
The same goes for screen protectors, which must match the exact screen shape and cut-outs. Find your model name in Settings first, then shop for that model.
Is a bigger phone screen better?
It depends on how you use the phone. Each size has its trade-offs:
- Bigger screens: easier for reading, video and maps, but harder to use with one hand.
- Smaller screens: easier to reach across and fit in a pocket, but text and video are smaller.
If you can, hold both sizes in a shop before you choose. Check the full specs on our iPhone screen sizes pages first.
Does the screen size include the rounded corners?
No. Apple measures the screen as if it were a full rectangle. Its spec pages note that the real viewing area is a little smaller, because of the rounded corners.
That is why a tape measure on the glass reads slightly less than the listed size. For a fair check, measure from where each corner would be if it were square.
How big is my phone screen compared with a bank card?
A bank card is 3.4 in (8.6 cm)8.6 cm (3.4 in) by 2.1 in (5.4 cm)5.4 cm (2.1 in). The iPhone 17 screen is 2.6 in (6.7 cm)6.7 cm (2.6 in) wide, so a card laid across it overhangs by 0.7 in (1.9 cm)1.9 cm (0.7 in) in total.
You can check any length on your computer with our actual size ruler. It uses a bank card to set the scale.
How do I check my screen size on Android?
Android phones rarely show the screen size in Settings. Find it this way:
- Open Settings, then About phone, and note the model name.
- Search the model name with “screen size” on the maker’s website.
- Or measure the screen corner to corner with a tape, as shown above.
For the resolution as well, use our live check in what resolution is my phone.
How do I pick the right screen protector?
Buy by model name, not by screen size alone. The cutouts for the camera and sensors differ, even between phones with the same size.
Check your model under Settings, then General, then About on an iPhone. Each model page in our iPhone screen size chart lists the exact screen.
How do I compare my phone with a new one before buying?
Use our iPhone size comparison to draw two screens to scale. You see the width, height and area side by side.
Then hold your current phone against the screen to judge the change. Check the case and protector will fit the new model before you order them.
