What did the real models show?

The table lists five 22 inch monitors from Dell and ViewSonic. Their bodies are 19.2 in48.8 cm to 19.4 in49.3 cm wide. With under 1 in (2.5 cm) between them, the frame rarely decides whether one of these fits.

Without its stand, the Dell SE2225HM and ViewSonic VG2242 are the thinnest at 1.8 in4.5 cm deep. At the other end, the Dell P2226H is 2.0 in5.0 cm deep.

Weights run from 4.83 lb2.2 kg for the Dell E2226H to 6.4 lb2.9 kg for the ViewSonic VA2256-MHD. A monitor arm rated for 7 lb3.2 kg or more covers the weight of every model here.

With their stands, the makers list heights of 14.3 in36.3 cm to 15.6 in39.6 cm, so measure under any shelf. On their stands, they take 6.7 in17.1 cm to 9.0 in23.0 cm of desk depth.

All five share one VESA pattern, 100 x 100 mm, so one arm pattern covers them all.

Will a 22 inch monitor fit on your desk?

Enter the space on your desk, under any shelf or cabinet. We check it against the screen, and the table above shows what each stand adds.

How much desk do two or three need?

Two 22 inch screens side by side need at least 38.3 in97.4 cm (97.4 cm38.3 in) of desk width for the screens alone. Three need 57.5 in146.1 cm (146.1 cm57.5 in). Add the frame widths from the table above.

Two side by side are a little narrower than one 45 inch ultrawide, with a frame down the middle.

How far should you sit from a 22 inch monitor?

Desk screens are usually viewed from 20 to 30 in (50 to 75 cm). The table shows how much of your view a 22 inch screen fills at each distance. It feels very wide at 18 to 20 in46 to 51 cm, wide at 24 in61 cm and ideal at 28 to 32 in71 to 81 cm.

Which resolution suits a 22 inch monitor?

Higher resolution looks sharper but makes text smaller, so you need display scaling. At 22 inches, 1920 × 1080 gives 100 PPI and 3840 × 2160 gives 200 PPI. The table shows the Windows scaling each needs.

At this size, 1920 × 1080 looks clear, 2560 × 1440 looks crisp and 3840 × 2160 looks very sharp. 1920 × 1080 works at 100% scaling, while 2560 × 1440 needs 150% and 3840 × 2160 needs 200%.

ResolutionPixel densityWindows scalingPixels vanish beyond
1920 × 1080 100 PPI 100% 34.3 in 87.2 cm
2560 × 1440 134 PPI 150% 25.8 in 65.4 cm
3840 × 2160 200 PPI 200% 17.2 in 43.6 cm

Sit farther away than the last column and you will not see single pixels. See every resolution in the chart.

How does a 22 inch monitor compare with other sizes?

The next size up, the 23.8 inch monitor, has 17% more screen area. The next size down, the 21.5 inch monitor, has 4% less screen area. Area grows with the square of the diagonal, so a few inches feel bigger than they sound.

That makes the size up a clear step, and the size down a small step.

How we measure

Screen width = diagonal x a / sqrt(a^2 + b^2) and height = diagonal x b / sqrt(a^2 + b^2) for an a:b screen. Viewing angle = 2 x arctan(half the screen width / distance). Pixel visibility uses 1 arcminute, the limit of 20/20 vision.

Model sizes come from each maker's published spec sheet, linked in the table. Last checked 2026-10-09.
