What did the real models show?

The table lists three 49 inch ultrawide monitors from ASUS and Dell. Their bodies are 47.0 in119.3 cm to 47.8 in121.5 cm wide. With under 1 in (2.5 cm) between them, the frame rarely decides whether one of these fits.

Without its stand, the Dell U4924DW is the thinnest at 4.4 in11.2 cm deep. At the other end, the ASUS ROG Strix XG49VQ is 7.0 in17.8 cm deep.

Weights run from 18.74 lb8.5 kg for the ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG49WCD to 26.79 lb12.2 kg for the Dell U4924DW. A monitor arm rated for 27 lb12.2 kg or more covers the weight of every model here.

Only the Dell U4924DW lists its height with the stand, 15.8 in40.1 cm, so measure under any shelf. On their stands, they take 10.6 in26.9 cm to 13.6 in34.5 cm of desk depth. The ASUS ROG Strix XG49VQ needs the most, so check it against a shallow desk.

All three share one VESA pattern, 100 x 100 mm, so one arm pattern covers them all.

Will a 49 inch ultrawide monitor fit on your desk?

Enter the space on your desk, under any shelf or cabinet. We check it against the screen, and the table above shows what each stand adds.

Fits, with 2.4 in to spare on each side

How much desk do two or three need?

Two 49 inch screens side by side need at least 94.3 in239.6 cm (239.6 cm94.3 in) of desk width for the screens alone. Three need 141.5 in359.4 cm (359.4 cm141.5 in). Add the frame widths from the table above.

That screen is about as wide as two 27 inch monitors side by side, without the frames between them.

How far should you sit from a 49 inch ultrawide monitor?

Desk screens are usually viewed from 20 to 30 in (50 to 75 cm). The table shows how much of your view a 49 inch screen fills at each distance. It feels very wide at every distance in the table, from 18 to 32 in46 to 81 cm, so expect to turn your head.

Eye to screenScreen fillsHow it feels
18.0 in 45.7 cm 105° Very wide, lots of head turning
20.0 in 50.8 cm 99° Very wide, lots of head turning
24.0 in 61.0 cm 89° Very wide, lots of head turning
28.0 in 71.1 cm 80° Very wide, lots of head turning
32.0 in 81.3 cm 73° Very wide, lots of head turning

Which resolution suits a 49 inch ultrawide monitor?

Higher resolution looks sharper but makes text smaller, so you need display scaling. At 49 inches, 3840 × 1080 gives 81 PPI and 5120 × 1440 gives 109 PPI. The table shows the Windows scaling each needs.

At this size, 3840 × 1080 looks soft and 5120 × 1440 looks clear. 3840 × 1080 works at 100% scaling, while 5120 × 1440 needs 125%.

ResolutionPixel densityWindows scalingPixels vanish beyond
3840 × 1080 81 PPI 100% 42.2 in 107.3 cm
5120 × 1440 109 PPI 125% 31.7 in 80.5 cm

Sit farther away than the last column and you will not see single pixels. See every resolution in the chart.

How does a 49 inch ultrawide monitor compare with other sizes?

This is the largest monitor size in our chart. The next size down, the 45 inch ultrawide monitor, has 15% more screen area. Area grows with the square of the diagonal, so a few inches feel bigger than they sound.

That makes the nearest size a clear step away.

How we measure

Screen width = diagonal x a / sqrt(a^2 + b^2) and height = diagonal x b / sqrt(a^2 + b^2) for an a:b screen. Viewing angle = 2 x arctan(half the screen width / distance). Pixel visibility uses 1 arcminute, the limit of 20/20 vision.

Model sizes come from each maker's published spec sheet, linked in the table. Last checked 2026-10-09.
