1440p Resolution Dimensions

1440p (QHD) is 2560 pixels wide and 1440 pixels tall, a 16:9 aspect ratio with 3.7 million pixels, 1.8 times as many as 1080p. It is also called QHD or 2K or 2560 × 1440.

Drawn to scale in pixels. The dashed outline is 1080p (1920 × 1080).

How sharp is 1440p at each screen size?

1440p at 24 in gives 122 pixels per inch, against 39 at 75 in. Beyond the distance shown, 20/20 vision cannot pick out single pixels.

Screen sizePixel densityWindows scalingPixels vanish beyond
24 in 122 PPI 125% 28.1 in 71.4 cm
27 in 109 PPI 125% 31.6 in 80.3 cm
32 in 92 PPI 100% 37.5 in 95.1 cm
43 in 68 PPI 100% 50.3 in 127.8 cm
55 in 53 PPI 100% 5.4 ft 1.6 m
65 in 45 PPI 100% 6.3 ft 1.9 m
75 in 39 PPI 100% 7.3 ft 2.2 m

Seen from a desk, 1440p looks crisp at 24 in, clear at 27 to 32 in and soft at 43 in. On TVs from 55 in up, you sit further back, so the last column matters more. Windows stays at 100% from 32 in up, while the 24 in screen needs 125%.

Where is 1440p used?

1440p is popular on 27 inch monitors, where text looks sharp at little or no scaling. Gamers like it as a middle ground: sharper than 1080p, but far easier to drive than 4K. Few TVs and little video use it, so streams play at 1080p or 4K and get scaled.

How does 1440p compare with other resolutions?

1440p has 1.8× the pixels of 1080p. Each row below divides its pixel count by the other resolution.

1440p has about three quarters more pixels than 1080p, the next step down. 3440 × 1440, the next step up, has about a third more pixels than 1440p.

Resolution1440p has
vs 8K (7680 × 4320) 11% the pixels
vs 5K (5120 × 2880) 25% the pixels
vs 4K (3840 × 2160) 44% the pixels
vs 1080p (1920 × 1080) 1.8× the pixels
vs 3440 × 1440 74% the pixels
vs 1366 × 768 3.5× the pixels

What does 1440p look like with display scaling?

Scaling keeps every pixel but draws text and windows bigger, so you get less desktop space. At 150%, 1440p gives the room of 1707 × 960 with the sharpness of 2560 × 1440.

Display scalingDesktop space
100% 2560 × 1440
125% 2048 × 1152
150% 1707 × 960
175% 1463 × 823
200% 1280 × 720
250% 1024 × 576

Try any resolution and scale in the resolution scale calculator. Phones and Macs work the same way, with a pixel ratio of 2 or 3.

How do I set my screen to 1440p?

On Windows, open Settings, then System, then Display, and pick 2560 × 1440 under Display resolution. On a Mac, open System Settings, then Displays.

You only see resolutions your screen and graphics card support. Pick your screen's native resolution, marked Recommended on Windows, or the picture looks soft.

How much data does 1440p use?

One 1440p frame holds 3,686,400 pixels, 11 MB before compression at 8 bits per color. At 60 frames a second that is 5.3 gigabits every second, and 13 at 144.

Streaming services and game consoles compress this heavily. Cables carry it uncompressed, so higher resolutions and refresh rates need newer HDMI or DisplayPort versions.

How many pixels is 1440p?

1440p is 2560 × 1440, which is 3,686,400 pixels in total. That is 3.7 megapixels.

What screen size suits 1440p?

On a 24 in screen, 1440p gives 122 pixels per inch, and on 75 in it gives 39. Smaller screens look sharper, so pick the size for how far away you sit.

What is 1440p at 150% scaling?

A desktop space of 1707 × 960. Every item is drawn 1.5 times bigger, using all 2560 × 1440 pixels, so text stays as sharp as the panel allows.

How much data is one 1440p frame?

11 MB before compression, at 8 bits per color. At 60 frames a second that is 5.3 gigabits every second, which is why video is compressed.

Does 1440p look the same on every screen?

No. The pixel count is fixed, but the pixels get bigger as the screen gets bigger. The table above shows how sharp 1440p looks at each size.

How we measure

Pixel density is the pixel diagonal, √(width² + height²), divided by the screen diagonal in inches. Single pixels vanish for 20/20 vision beyond 3438 ÷ PPI inches. Windows scaling is PPI ÷ 96, rounded to a 25% step.
